The Million Dollar Climb Challenge

Do you struggle to find the time to make your business more efficient and profitable? Does it feel like you’re burning the candle at both ends, constantly busy and almost always working, with less to show for it than you should?

You’re not alone.

Many pest control business owners struggle to find time—the time they need to establish, grow, and ultimately become so efficient that they work less. I know because I’ve been there.

Meet Sheri, The Pest Control Business Coach

I’m Sheri Spencer Bachman, a business coach and successful pest control business operator. I’ve been in the PCT’s top 100 companies for six years as of the writing of this blog post and have grown and sold several businesses.

With 30+ years in the industry, I went from working 60+ hours per week in my business to working 10 hours per week while growing it faster and larger than when I was overworking myself.

Since 2010, my goal has been to help PCOs, just like you, overcome being stressed out, overworked, and underpaid to achieve efficiency, profitability, and rekindle their love for their business. I created the Million Dollar Climb challenge to help achieve this goal.

The Obstacles Business Owners Face

While each business is likely to face unique challenges, there are principal obstacles that almost all will eventually confront. Some of the most common include:

  • Time Management: Do you feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day? Why is it we all have the same amount, but other people get more done? It’s all about time management, one of the biggest struggles that can take on many different shapes for different businesses.
  • Financial Insecurity: Nobody likes to juggle money, but business owners can all too easily find themselves struggling with funds. This isn’t a problem limited to startups or even the first five years of business; money issues can impact a business at almost any time.
  • Internal Chaos: Ever have days where it feels like your business strategy has suddenly become something akin to holding on for dear life? Internal chaos occurs when the systems you use in the office or behind the scenes aren’t working. As a result, your business can experience disorganization, communication breakdowns, training issues, marketing mayhem, and more.
  • Zero Freedom: The ultimate goal of business ownership is the achievement of freedom in all its aspects, from financial to time. No one starts a business to build a personal prison, but that’s exactly what can happen. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, we find ourselves stuck, exhausted, overworked, underpaid, and attached to a self-made ball and chain that sucks the love of what we do right out of the equation.

So, how can you tackle the obstacles that often come with business ownership? How can you turn your business today into tomorrow’s source of freedom?

The Million Dollar Climb Solution

The Million Dollar Climb has been dubbed “The Stairway to Freedom.” The challenge is designed to help you achieve more time, more money, and more life. As you successfully climb or complete one step and begin to ascend the next, you will review and update your climb to maximize your results. The challenge can be used and reused at any stage. It is one of the most beneficial directional tools you will ever use.

The stairway is composed of 12 steps. These 12 categories are where most business owners find themselves encountering obstacles that eat away at their time, money, and life:

  1. Mission, Vision & Core Values
  2. Financial
  3. Employee Handbook
  4. Sop’s – Policies & Procedures Process Documentation
  5. Hiring, Onboarding, Offboarding, Compensation – HR
  6. Training
  7. KPIs
  8. Delegation
  9. Goal Setting
  10. Marketing
  11. Strategic Planning
  12. Owner’s Freedom

Before beginning your ascent, however, the first action you need to take is that of an honest evaluation. Using the Million Dollar Climb scorecard, you will assess where your business places today in each of the 12 categories listed above.

For each category, you will ask yourself, “Where is my business today?” Every step has four possible answers. Your task is to pick the most accurate and honest answer for your business right now. Don’t overthink it. Go with the response that first resonates. Within that answer are three levels of truth to the statement: sometimes, often, and always. Pick the most accurate one.

After finishing each category, you will total your score. A score of 120 or higher means your business is set up for success and ready to scale and grow. A score below 120 means you have areas to improve.

Remember, there is no pass or fail in this challenge. The goal is to highlight the areas in need of nurturing to pinpoint the problems in need of solutions.
